Naturopathy, Herbal Medicine & Nutrition

Naturopathy is a wholistic system of healing that incorporates a range of treatments and natural therapies, with the underlying belief that your body, given the right support, is able to heal itself.

About Naturopathy

A naturopathic practitioner deals with internal health problems, metabolic disorders and imbalances, through treatment of the whole person. In general, a wide range of assessment techniques are employed to uncover the causative factors, and treatment includes nutritional advice, dietary, herbal medicines, bodywork and nutritional supplements. Naturopaths will not necessarily utilise all of these therapies, but will choose from a range of therapies they specialise in.

Naturopaths believe that when we restore or maintain the equilibrium of the body, our immune system is better placed to defend itself against infection and disease. We also accept that the body has an innate ability to heal itself.

‘Give the body what it needs and it will heal itself’

Naturopaths are trained in a variety of modalities and therefore able to treat a broad spectrum of illness or disease states that are either acute or chronic.

Western Herbal Medicine

Nature itself is the best physician.

~ Hippocrates ~

What is Western Herbal Medicine?

Western herbal medicine involves using plants and plant material to create medicines to help prevent or treat various illnesses. These materials may use some or all parts of a plant, such as flowers, roots, fruits, leaves, and bark.

This modality emphasises the use of European and Native American herbs; however, herbs from other parts of the world are sometimes used as well.

Traditional Western herbal medicine evolved mostly from the ancient Greeks, who were strongly influenced by Egyptian and Middle Eastern civilizations. Western herbal medicine also has roots in the indigenous practices of the British Isles and ancient Roman traditions. Well-known historical physicians including Hippocrates and Galen are thought to have used herbal medicine in their practices. The use of various herbal formulas is one of the oldest and possibly the most widespread form of medicine.

What is Western Herbal Medicine used for?

Herbal remedies are used for many suggested purposes, such as improvement or general support of digestive, respiratory, circulatory, immune, endocrine, and nervous system processes. Herbs are also used to purportedly remove waste and toxins from bodily cells or topically to promote healing of the skin.

What is Iridology?

Iridology is the study of the iris of the eye. Compare it to a Family Tree giving information with regard to familial health issues inherited from parents, grandparents and great grandparents. In other words providing a possible insight into prospective strengths and weakness – a snap shot of each individuals health ‘blue print’, allowing for informed choices to be made with nutrition, exercise and everyday living to support and achieve optimal health and wellness.

About Iridology

Iridology is based on the scientific study of the iris — the coloured part of the eye. Like markings on a map, the iris reveals physiological conditions, psychological health risks, challenges and/or strengths of various organs and personality traits.

Through Iridology, we can get an understanding of your past, present, and potential future health conditions by assessing the various body systems. Your inherited tendencies compounded by toxic accumulations in various parts of your body are also revealed.

The Science of Iridology is based on the analogy of one of the most complicated tissue structures of the whole body – the iris.

It is a method whereby the doctor or health practitioner can tell, from markings or signs in the iris, the reflex condition of various organs and systems of the body. These markings represent a detailed picture of the integrity of the body; its constitutional potentials, areas of congestion or toxic accumulations and inherent challenges and gifts.

The four principles that form the cornerstones of Iridology are:

  • The condition of the nerves
  • The condition of the blood and lymph system
  • Adequate circulation
  • Nutrition – rest quality, breathing – state of mind

Nutrition is crucial in forming the building blocks to create a healthy, energised body.

How does nutrition help your wellbeing?

Nutrition is about what we eat. Nutrition is meeting and fulfilling the appropriate balance of nutrients that are required for the healthy functioning of our body and mind.

A diversity of nutritious foods are the foundation for healthy eating and long term support for our overall health as we age. Good quality nutrition supports the tissues of the entire gastrointestinal tract (GIT), and a strong GIT gives good immunity. This is how the body counters invading organisms.

Did you know, each fruit and vegetable has a unique combination of phytonutrients and polyphenols that support our entire system along with a balance of protein and carbohydrates that give us energy. Each action and metabolic pathway requires energy to function optimally and a strong foundation for brain health, cognition and a happy and vibrant aging.

Is your nutritional wellbing on the right path??

Question: Do you fully understand the combinations required of protein, carbohydrates, vegetables and fruits?

It’s simple information but there can be misunderstandings in the most innocent of suggestions. Take for example a fruit smoothie with yogurt to start the day. Yes, this sounds great and very healthy, but this fruit smoothie has the potential to spike your glucose levels.  There’s something you can add to avoid a burst of glucose and subsequent rush of insulin. Yes our bodies need insulin, but in balance. Do you know what it is? A trained nutritionist does and these are the health tips you will benefit from with professional guidance and advise.

For the past 16 years I’ve been in my Clinic in Boonah as a Naturopath, Herbalist and also a Nutritional Practitioner. I’m trained to assess in my Clinic where your body is experiencing stress. There are many helpful suggestions I can offer, some so simple when you understand why.

Answer: Try adding some green vegies to your smoothie to slow glucose absorption!
